Loved Presence and Absence
welcome back!
and though We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Hello everyone,
As I am leaving early next week and will be away until September, I wanted to wish you all a happy summer.
I hope the "rentrée" will bring me back to V:TES at least a little bit!
Ciao,
Emiliano

Hello everyone,
As you might have noticed, I have mostly been away from all tournaments (abroad and in Belgium too), and I've also been away from our weekly training sessions. To be straight, I'm doing a break. And to be honest, my will to play is really low despite the fact that I miss my VTES friends
So, here's a small essay on why I don't currently play VTES.
First, let me write a mathematical formula : Motivation to play VTES = A * Free Time + B * Money to spend + Various Factors
This is applicable to me, but I think to most of the VTES (and CCG in general) players.
I'm trying to explain why the motivation to play can increase or decrease dependant on genreal and private life conditions.
"Free Time" is a variable that everyone has to face. Depending on your current job, work on your house, other hobbies, at can vary a lot and is mostly what will effect the weekly presence ... usually the last minute reply.
"Money to spend" is a variable that can also vary a lot from one to another ... but we could say that VTES is pretty cheap to play, at least if you have already invested a lot of money in the past to get all the cards ... there is a however a huge investment to do for every new player (maybe allowing proxies on tournament would help ? )
"Various Factors", because there is always something that comes in the way.
I'll try to justify my absence according to this equation.
The time I have is less big than before ... and I would say it's the biggest constraint for me. I don't live in Brussels anymore (even if I work there and could start from Brussels most of the trips), and it takes me 45 minutes to get to Brussels. Moreover, most of the games don't take place in Brussels anymore, which adds 1 more hour to the one way trip to get to Ghent or Antwerp. So let's count 2-3 hours of travelling ... just travelling.
The money I have is also much more limited than before. And the impact is mainly on the car and fuel ... sorry to say that, but once again, distance is an issue.
Various Factors influencing my will to play : the few tournaments in Belgium. We could easily gather people from France, The Netherlands and even Germany (on bigger tourneys) ... and organize 2-3 10+ players tournaments on a year. Besides, the fact that the NC was not in Brussels and prevented some foreign players to attend ... is something that kinda shocked me.
Alright, this was just to justify my current absence ... if not retirement from VTES.
Thank you and btw congrats for the great results at the EC !!

Hi Luke,
There's no need to justify why you play or don't play vtes. You're welcome at anytime
On that note: I'm moving to another place (still in Ghent) during the next month, so I probably won't touch any cards for about a month or so. I'll keep looking for a date to have one more tournament late november - early december.

Hey Luke,
I guess we all know what you are talking about. I also think it's good you speak up and tell everyone what you think / feel;
maybe we should do that more in order not to lose players and keep our small group together.
Despite some issues that are apparently hard to solve, I still would like to propose this to you, in hope you do not retire from
this game: I think both Emiliano and Lucien will be back on track for vtes (though Emiliano's amount of spare time is limited)
which would be a very good reason to play vtes more in bxlls again and I really can see that happening. Besides that we might organise
a sunday or so (or friday or ...) in the upcoming weeks (maybe after Dennis' moving) to try and have some vtes in your area, a place
nearby or at your home if that would be an option. It's not much but it is the least we can try to do for a fine person and vtes player like you to try and keep you in the game.
Let us know what you think about that and if so .... pin a couple of dates both for brxxls and your place ...
your pal
